Come to Frankfurt am Main!

For the first time, the European Business History Conference will take place in Germany, from September 1 to 3, 2005. Visit the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main and participate in a stimulating conference in the „city of the Euro“, a European centre of commerce. With the former administrative building of the IG-Farbenindustrie, which was designed by Hans Poelzig in 1929 and that now accommodates the humanities, we have found a marvelous place for our conference. Even the location in itself will be interesting for business historians. Close to the city centre of Frankfurt, the venue is only about 30 minutes away from Frankfurt airport and 15 minutes from the main train station.

The theme of the conference is „Corporate Images – Images of the Corporation“. Under this heading we will approach its main facets: public relations of enterprises, marketing, advertising and corporate culture. The internal communication processes of companies also might be studied: How do enterprises communicate with their employees and how do the employees talk about their enterprise? Another aspect of the images of corporations are the pictures that business historians themselves draw of certain enterprises or sectors. And last but not least those images are important which represent enterprises in the public: colours of products, design styles and, of course, their central residences, like the building of the IG-Farbenindustrie in Frankfurt.

The hosts of the conference, the chair for Economic and Social History of the University of Frankfurt am Main, the Arbeitskreis für kritische Unternehmens- und Industriegeschichte (AKKU) and the Gesellschaft für Unternehmensgeschichte (GUG) invite you sincerely to send drafts for sessions or papers (see the call for papers link below). You are especially invited to contribute papers. Your attendance is essential for the success of a wonderful conference. On this site, you will find information on registration and accommodation, or feel free to contact us. A registration form and the full conference programme will be available here in spring 2005.
